ColourPop Ultra Matte Lippies...... Do you need them?

I'm sure if you haven't been living under a rock, you've seen Colour Pop released "Ultra Matte" liquid lipsticks. This matte lip is a very trendy thing, Anastasia Beverly Hills (aka ABH) released their matte lipsticks that went for 3 times the price and people loved them! Lots of brands put a matte lipstick out, Stilla, KatVonD, Jefferre Star.......... Just to name a FEW (trust me. there's a ton)

Anyways! Matte lip, some love it and some hate it. On the other hand, I was stuck in the middle. I love a nice gloss with or without color in it, that matte lip........ looks SO pretty and they all claim to be long lasting. I gave in and bought some Jefferre Star colors, they were too crazy for me and the formula sunk into EVERY little crease of my lip. ABH kept popping up, I ordered "Lovely" because it was described as the "perfect go-to nude-pink" and it was, but also drying. It stayed on better then JS but I wasn't impressed. These two brands (I paid about $20 each) were a little on the pricey side. I had given up hope of ever being "into matte" after these failed attempts at rocking a matte lip.

Then Colour Pop saves the day!! They release "Ultra Matte" and they're only $6.50. For me, that's the perfect price that I can buy a few, try different colors and not break the bank.
(ps if you use the code THANKSBABE you get $5 off of a $30 purchase, anything over $30 ships for free)
After watching about 82 YouTube videos and of all of their swatches, I decided on Midi, Bumble, Solow, Mars, 1st Base. All of them are in my comfort zone and not to crazy. Since I ordered these when they first released the website was having issues and it took almost 2 hours to shop and check out.
When they got here I had to put these beauties on Instagram! The packaging is a simple tube with a silver top.

This is all of them, excuse the poor lighting.

SO at first I was excited, then after a bit..... the excitement wore off. Everyone was complaining that the lipsticks would flake and they were horrible. I exfoliate my lips with a homemade sugar scrub and a baby toothbrush (THANK YOU PINTREST) so I was hoping I wouldn't have this issue.

Like any educated makeup addict I needed to test these lippies........... and test I DID.
I love ColourPop's lippies sticks (there's a video and a blog all about them)

The simplest way I could think was to make a timeline of pictures. I can't just wear them at home, I needed a real life test. Will these Ultra Matte lipsticks hold up like the Lippie Sticks do??
I put it to the test. OH and trust me, this was complicated science, MythBusters would have helped conduct this experiment but I don't know them and they're probably busy. With that said............ The pressure is ON!

First pic of the day, butt-crack of dawn and at work.

Usually I have a smoothie or protein shake but I was being lazy.

As y'all can see, this wasn't really a "long wear" lipstick. To me, long wear lasts at least through my 8 hour work day, maybe even 12 hours. In the early 2000's my mom introduced me to long wear and at the time Max Factor was the best. For some reason I can't find it in stores anymore and I now have a new love (not matte)

Anyways! On with my experiment, I wasn't satisfied with this and I was let down. I decided the next day I should test the great ole Lippie Stick that I loved so much.

Lumiere

As you can see by noon, Lumiere Lippie Stick was gone.

Now I have to ask myself......... "What would Myth Busters do......?"
They'd find another variable and try it again, with that said.... the next day I tried the lippie stick again BUT this time with the matching lip liner under it. Okay, actually lip liner all over my lip and lippie stick only in the middle so it wouldn't look to dry.
Will it make a difference?
Will it stay longer?
Will it look matte?
...... The world will never know!
WAIT, sorry... we will know, by the end of this blog, we'll know.

This day at work was really busy, I got only a few pics.

After breakfast and coffee
After a late lunch. There's just a tint left.

My final conclusion, matte lips are not for me. Regardless of  the price point, none of them blew me out of the water. I think the best thing for my lips is the liner alone. It gave me a semi matte look without looking to dry. It didn't flake and it didn't look like my lips were chapped.

What did you think? Did you love them? Favorite color? Comment below and let me know!
